Common Questions About BOTOX®

What is BOTOX® Cosmetic?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It has been used medically for over a decade and is used for alternative treatments including migraine headaches, back pain, excessive sweating, muscle spasticity, and neck, facial and vocal cord spasms. There are no reported risks using very dilute medical concentrations of the chemical.

Who is a good candidate for the procedure?

Anyone who shows signs of aging are good candidates for BOTOX® Cosmetic injections. To find out more about BOTOX® Cosmetic and to discuss your individual requirements with Dr. Michele Finley, please contact us.

What are the benefits?

The muscles of facial expression are connected to the skin overlying them. After years of use, the muscles create visible lines and creases. By relaxing the superficial muscles attached to the skin, wrinkles "relax" and soften. The overall effect is a smoother, more serene, more youthful appearance.

Is it safe?

BOTOX® Cosmetic has been widely used for cosmetic purposes for a decade, and has been enthusiastically endorsed by those who have used it.

What wrinkles can be treated?

The most commonly treated areas are the forehead, around the eyes and between the eyebrows. Crow's feet can be softened; the furrow between the brows can be diminished and forehead wrinkles can be lessened. Less commonly treated areas include the lips and lower face.

Can I still move my face?

Yes. Extreme movements of the forehead and eyebrows, which create the wrinkles, will be prevented, but other muscles in the face will not be affected.

How long will the treatment take?

A very small amount of the diluted drug is injected directly into the muscle in the desired treatment area. The procedure is very quick and is performed while you are sitting upright. It is important to remain in an upright position for two to three hours after the treatment so the BOTOX® Cosmetic will remain in the treated area.

Does it hurt?

Individuals vary in their response. Some people experience a slight stinging sensation during the injection, but there is rarely any pain following treatment.

How long will the results last?

Individual results vary but for most people the results last for three to four months. Facial muscles that are larger (men) or which are used a lot by facially expressive patients may require treatments more frequently. Often the facial muscles become trained so that over time, less treatment is needed to keep facial lines relaxed.

Are there any side effects?

Occasionally a small temporary bruise at the injection site may occur.

Are there any medical exclusions?

Pregnant or breastfeeding women should wait to be treated. Dr. Finley will review your medical history with you during your initial consultation prior to administering treatment.

How much does it cost?

The cost is dependant on the amount of BOTOX® Cosmetic actually used, and we only charge for the units used.

What should I do prior to treatment?

We recommend avoiding aspirin, aspirin-containing products and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents for one week prior to treatment as these can increase the small chance of bruising.

What will I have to do following the procedure?

Remain in an upright position for two to three hours after treatment. Avoid alcohol, aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents for at least two days. Avoid strenuous exercise for at least 24 hours.

Important Safety Information from BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults younger than 65 years of age for a short period of time (temporary).

Important Safety Information including boxed warning

BOTOX® Cosmetic may cause serious side effects that can be life threatening. Call your doctor

or get medical help right away if you have any of these problems any time (hours to weeks)

after injection of BOTOX® Cosmetic:

• Problems swallowing, speaking, or breathing, due to weakening of associated muscles, can be

severe and result in loss of life. You are at the highest risk if these problems are pre-existing before

injection. Swallowing problems may last for several months

• Spread of toxin effects. The effect of botulinum toxin may affect areas away from the injection

site and cause serious symptoms including: loss of strength and all-over muscle weakness, double

vision, blurred vision and drooping eyelids, hoarseness or change or loss of voice (dysphonia),

trouble saying words clearly (dysarthria), loss of bladder control, trouble breathing, trouble swallowing

There has not been a confirmed serious case of spread of toxin effect when BOTOX® Cosmetic has been used at the recommended dose to treat frown lines.

Do not take BOTOX® Cosmetic if you are allergic to any of the ingredients in BOTOX® Cosmetic (see Medication Guide for ingredients); had an allergic reaction to any other botulinum toxin product such as Myobloc® or Dysport®; have a skin infection at the planned injection site.

Tell your doctor about all your muscle or nerve conditions, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis [ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease], myasthenia gravis, or Lambert-Eaton syndrome, as you may be at increased risk of serious side effects including severe dysphagia (difficulty swallowing) and respiratory compromise (difficulty breathing) from typical doses of BOTOX® Cosmetic.

Tell your doctor about all your medical conditions, including if you have: plans to have surgery; had surgery on your face; weakness of forehead muscles, such as trouble raising your eyebrows; drooping eyelids; any other abnormal facial change; are pregnant or plan to become pregnant (it is not

known if BOTOX® Cosmetic can harm your unborn baby); are breast-feeding or plan to breast-feed (it is not known if BOTOX® Cosmetic passes into breast milk).

Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

BOTOX® Cosmetic may cause loss of strength or general muscle weakness, or vision problems. If this happens, do not drive a car, operate machinery, or do other dangerous activities.

Other side effects of BOTOX® Cosmetic include: dry mouth, discomfort or pain at the injection site, tiredness, headache, neck pain, and eye problems: double vision, blurred vision, decreased eyesight, drooping eyelids, swelling of your eyelids, and dry eyes.

Common Questions About Cellulaze

What is Cellulaze?

Cellulaze is the only minimally invasive laser procedure designed to attack the structure of cellulite beneath your skin. It delivers longer-lasting results with just ONE short treatment.

How does the Cellulaze cellulite laser work?

A very small cannula (or tube about the size of the tip of a pen) is inserted under the skin. Cynosure’s unique SideLight laser fiber inside the tube delivers energy directly under the skin. This increases the thickness and quality of your skin, while simultaneously releasing the fibrous bands that pull it down—minimizing the orange peel look associated with cellulite. Finally, the cellulite laser is used to diminish the lumpy pockets of fat that protrude though the fibrous bands under your skin.

How do I know if Cellulaze is right for me?

Cellulaze delivers best results for women who are not significantly overweight but have mild to moderate cellulite on their thighs. Please feel free to schedule a complimentary consultation with Dr. Finley to discuss if this procedure is right for you.

How does Cellulaze compare to other treatments?

There are countless treatments that claim to get rid of cellulite. However, these other treatments such as massage, external energy devises, creams and lotions, can only treat cellulite superficially by working at the skin's surface. These treatments require either daily or weekly applications and results are often inconsistent. Cellulaze is the first and only cellulite laser treatment that treats the actual problems underneath the skin to deliver a proven longer-lasting result from just one simple treatment.

I've tried everything to get rid of cellulite. How do I know Cellulaze really works?

Cellulaze is backed by many years of clinical research. Studies have shown it increases the thickness of your skin by 25% and the elasticity of your skin by 29%, significant claims that haven't been made by any other treatments. Thicker and more elastic skin can help flatten and smooth the skin surface to improve the appearance of cellulite. Additionally, 93% of patients surveyed were satisfied or very satisfied with their results at one year past their procedure, and all would recommend the Cellulaze cellulite laser treatment to a friend.

What does the procedure feel like?

Because the area is numbed with local anesthesia, there is minimal discomfort during the procedure. You may feel a light pressure, but it is a mild sensation. Following a Cellulaze cellulite laser treatment, you may experience some aches, much like after a physical workout.

How long does the Cellulaze procedure take?

On average, this cellulite laser procedure will take two to three hours. This is dependent on the size of the areas to be treated.

Do I have to stay in the hospital?

No. Cellulaze is performed under local anesthesia in-office.

How many treatments are necessary?

Results are achieved with just one Cellulaze cellulite laser treatment. Your results will continue to improve over the next three to twelve months.

How long do the results last?

Clinical studies have shown results can last for one year or more. However, it is important to maintain a healthy diet and exercise regimen to continue to enjoy Cellulaze cellulite laser results.

Will there be scarring?

The incision sites will be very small. With proper care, any scars will be barely noticeable.

What's the recovery time?

The Cellulaze cellulite laser treatment is a minimally invasive procedure which usually requires only local anesthesia. Some light bruising can occur, but you'll be able to return to normal activities within a day or two. You will have to wear a compression garment for a short period after treatment.

Common Questions About Dysport™

What is Dysport™?

Dysport™ is derived from the botulinum protein type A, and like Botox®, Dysport™ prevents the release of acetylcholine from nerve endings to achieve temporary relaxation of dynamic, wrinkle-causing muscles and effectively smooth and reduce wrinkles.

How does it compare to Botox?

Botox® and Dysport™ are both U.S. FDA approved to treat expression lines/facial wrinkles and have similar mechanisms of action. Dysport™ has been used in Europe since the early 1990’s and was approved by the FDA in April, 2009. The FDA approved Botox for treating crossed eyes and spasms in the eye muscle in 1989 and for treating wrinkles in 2002.

Is Dysport interchangeable with Botox?

One unit of Botox® does not equal one unit of Dysport™ so the dosing of each is independent of the other. Dysport™ is not stronger or more effective than Botox®. Most patients typically takes 2 to 3 times the amount of Dysport™ units as a comparable Botox® treatment. Typically either treatment are comparable in price.

If I have been treated with Botox® previously, can I be treated with Dysport™?

Yes. The treatment with Dysport™ will be a similar to the Botox treatment. Patients may prefer to stay with Botox because of its reliability and long history of safe, effective results; however, some patients prefer Dysport.

Who is a good candidate for the procedure?

Anyone who shows signs of aging is a good candidate for DYSPORT™ injections. To find out more about DYSPORT™ and to discuss your individual requirements, please contact us.

What are the benefits?

Is it safe?

Dysport™ has been widely used for medical purposes (cervical dystonia) since 1991 in over 70 countries.

What wrinkles can be treated?

The most commonly treated areas are the forehead, around the eyes and between the eyebrows. Crow’s feet can be softened; the furrow between the brows can be diminished and forehead wrinkles can be lessened.

It is important to remain in an upright position for two to three hours after the treatment so the DYSPORT™ will remain in the treated area.

Does it hurt?

Individuals vary in their response. Some people experience a slight stinging sensation during the injection, but there is rarely any pain following treatment.

How long will the results last?

Individual results vary but for most people the results last for three to four months. Common Questions About Fraxel®

What is Fraxel® Laser Treatment (FLT)?

Fraxel® Laser Treatment (FLT) is a "fractional" treatment that intensively treats old epidermal pigment cells without affecting any of the surrounding tissue, which reduces healing time and promotes the skin's natural process for creating new, healthier tissue to replace the damaged cells.

How is Fraxel® different from other laser treatments?

Until Fraxel, there were two types of available laser treatments. Ablative laser treatment, which literally means to vaporize at very high temperature, is very effective but has significant side effects and requires a lengthy healing period. The other available laser treatment, being non-ablative, has little or no side effects and almost no healing time, but requires numerous treatments over many months and has limited results at best. Fraxel® treatments offer the effectiveness of ablative treatments with the benefits of the gentler, non-ablative lasers.

How does Fraxel® work?

FLT is designed to target aging and sun-damaged skin by targeting portions of specific damaged tissue well beneath the outer most epidermal layer of skin, Fraxel® Laser treatments trigger the body's natural healing process accelerating the production of collagen and new, healthy skin cells.

What are the benefits?

Since FLT has the impact of ablative lasers but the gentler benefits of the non-ablative treatments, healing time is significantly accelerated so there is minimal downtime. Because the Fraxel® Laser penetrates the non-living outer layer of skin leaving it completely untreated, make-up can be worn immediately following the procedure. Patients are able to return to routine activities, including work and social obligations, the same day of treatment. Others require a little more time, depending upon their skin condition and treatment.

What are the risks of Fraxel® Laser Treatments?

Swelling and redness are the most common side effects from treatment. If swelling does occur, it is minimal and will subside within a day or two. Redness may occur and will fade within a few days. There is a very limited risk of infection or scarring.

How many treatments will I need?

Clinical studies suggest that on average, an effective treatment regimen is 4 to 6 sessions, spaced about 4 weeks apart. Depending upon your condition and schedule, your treatment sessions may be spaced further apart. Results are immediate and progressive. Optimal improvement is usually visible in about 2 to 3 months. This time frame and treatment structure allows for complete healing and replacement of damaged tissue with new collagen and elastin, and viable healthy skin cell growth.

How are Fraxel® Laser Treatments performed?

First your skin is thoroughly cleansed. A topical anesthetic ointment is also applied to the treatment area approximately 30 minutes prior to treatment in order for the anesthetic to take full effect. The procedure takes between 30 minutes for a full face.

Does it hurt?

Most patients describe the treatment as having a "prickling" sensation. The topical anesthetic ointment and air cooling alleviates most discomfort.

What should I expect after the procedure?

During the first 24 hours after treatment, your skin may feel as though it is sunburned, and it will appear pink or red. Make-up can be worn to reduce the sunburned appearance. Your skin will naturally bronze over the next week or two. As you continue treatment, the sunburned to bronze conditions will repeat. Just like a natural sunburn, your skin will flake and exfoliate normally. Using a moisturizer will help reduce the appearance of dry flakes.

What will I have to do following the procedure?

Wearing sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher twice a day is especially important. Avoid direct sun exposure during the healing process and for at least 3 months after treatment. Wearing wide brimmed hats is highly recommended when out in the elements.

Common Questions About Intense Pulse Light

What areas can be treated?

Any area of your body can be treated. The most common ones are face, neck, hands, chest and shoulders, which typically are the most exposed to the damaging effects of the sun.

How many treatments will I need?

Depending upon area treated, 2 to 5 treatments will produce the desired results.

How long will it take to recover?

This minimally invasive procedure can be performed during lunch-time with virtually no down-time.

What should I expect after the procedure?

Typically you may experience some redness that will resolve within a few hours. For some pigmented lesions you will see a darkening of the treated areas followed by fading and flaking off at a later stage. Since results vary depending on patient condition, number of treatments and area treated, Dr. Michele Finley will provide you with complete information about the post treatment effects and results.

Does it hurt?

There should be minimal discomfort. You may feel a warming of the skin, or a rubber band snap like sensation as the procedure is performed. This varies from patient to patient and depends on the depth of the treatment. There is no need for any topical anesthesia; however, patients may choose to use it on more sensitive areas.

What will happen during the procedure?

Your eyes will be protected with safety shields or glasses. You may briefly feel a warming of the skin, or a rubber band snap like sensation, as the light is absorbed by the targeted areas. Your procedure may take a few minutes to half an hour depending on the size of the area to be treated and the type and depth of the procedure performed. Dr. Michele Finley will discuss all the options with you.

What will I have to do following the procedure?

You may be given some medical skin care products and instructions on how to use them. This will minimize your risk of inflammation or redness and ensure the shortest healing time. You will be sensitive to ultra-violet light and you must avoid direct sun exposure until fully healed. Fully cover your skin or use a good sun screen whenever you go outdoors.

Common Questions About Intraceuticals Oxygen Infusion

How is the Intraceuticals Oxygen Infusion treatment performed?

Your aesthetic staff member will first cleanse your face. The Intraceuticals Rejuvenate Serum will then be introduced to your skin using pure oxygen under light pressure. The oxygen helps deliver the serum into the lower layers of your face,  feeling like a cool mist spray on your skin. Most patients find the experience very relaxing. Your skin care specialist performs this treatment using the Intraceuticals handpiece that resembles an airbrush.

What does the Rejuvenate serum contain?

Your Intraceuticals Rejuvenate serum contains a mixture of lightweight Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamins A, C, E, Aloe Vera and Green Tea.

How will this treatment help my skin?

The infusion contains a combination of two main elements: pure oxygen under light pressure, and the Rejuvenate serum. Both target the lower layers of your skin with the purpose of firming and tightening from the bottom up. The oxygen helps force the serum into those lower layers, replenishing natural elements that your skin loses as you age. Just as a mattress sags without a good box spring; the outer layers of your skin will sag without firm, healthy lower layers.

How will I know if this treatment has helped me?

At your first visit your skin care specialist will perform the infusion on half  your face. They will then sit you up with a mirror to show you the results. Your will be able to compare your pre-treatment skin to your post-treatment skin.  You will be able to witness the visible lift in your cheek and eyebrow and your skin will be more luminous, dewy and refreshed. The fine lines around your eyes and mouth will be less visible. Your specialist will then return you to your relaxed position and treat the other side of your face. Your results will continue to improve as the day progresses.

How long will my results last?

The Intraceuticals Oxygen Infusion treatment is perfect to do the day of an important event or photo opportunity. With no downtime to worry about, your face will be refreshed and glowing with a more youthful appearance for several days.  To achieve these results on a daily basis, most patients will do an initial series of six weekly infusions to re-establish your hydration layers.  After your initial series, maintain this positive change with an oxygen infusion treatment every four to six weeks.

Common Questions About Juvéderm® XC

What is Juvéderm® XC?

Juvéderm® XC injectable gel is a "next-generation" smooth consistency gel dermal filler that helps to instantly restore your skin's volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds like your "smile lines" or "parentheses" (nasolabial folds - the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth).

How is Juvéderm® XC different from BOTOX® Cosmetic?

Juvéderm® XC is a "next generation" hyaluronic acid dermal filler that provides volume and is used to treat wrinkles and folds resulting from a loss of volume beneath the surface of the skin such as perioral lines and nasolabial folds (lines around your mouth and nose). Juvéderm™ restores your skin's volume for a smooth, natural look and feel. BOTOX® Cosmetic is not a filler. BOTOX® Cosmetic relaxes muscle activity and is used to treat moderate to severe lines caused by the dominant frown muscles between the eyebrows (the glabellar area). This allows the two vertical lines between the brows, often referred to as the "11s," to temporarily diminish for a smoother appearance.

What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in all mammals that helps to hydrate and add volume to your skin. In addition to its use as an aesthetic treatment, hyaluronic acid has also been used for more than 20 years for injection into arthritic joints to aid movement as well as for eye surgeries and wound repair.

How is the Juvéderm® XC treatment performed?

Dr. Michele Finley eases Juvéderm® XC into the skin using a fine needle to temporarily fill in and augment the treatment area and smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds such as "smile lines" or "parentheses" (nasolabial folds). Juvéderm® XC temporarily adds volume to the skin and may give the appearance of a smoother surface.

What are the benefits?

Juvéderm® XC injectable gel will help to smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing, and the results last about six months.

Do the injections hurt?

Injections may cause some discomfort during and after the injection. Juvéderm® XC's smooth consistency gel allows Dr. Michele Finley to administer it easily and smoothly. And, Juvéderm® XC is injected directly into the skin using a fine needle to reduce injection discomfort. Dr. Finley may choose to numb (anesthetize) the treatment area to further minimize discomfort.

How long does the treatment take?

The injection process takes only about 15 minutes. You'll also need to allow time to consult with Dr. Finley prior to treatment.

How long does Juvéderm® XC last?

Juvéderm® XC's unique formulation provides results that last up to 6 months or longer and touch-up injections are usually needed to maintain optimal results.

What are the possible side effects of Juvéderm® XC?

Most side effects are mild in nature and last a short time. The most common side effects are temporary injections site redness or swelling.

Common Questions About Laser Hair Removal

What are Laser Hair Removal Systems and How Do they Work?

All laser systems emit a gentle beam of light that passes through the skin to the hair follicle where it is absorbed by the hair. The laser energy is then transformed into heat which disables the follicle. Lasers that utilize a cooling device will help provide the patient with increased comfort and protection by cooling the upper layers of skin. This cooling selectivity helps to protect the skin while effectively treating the unwanted hair.   This procedure results in finer, sparser hair growth.  Removing 100 percent of the hair is rarely achieved.

How long will the procedure take?

The length of the procedure depends on the area being treated. An entire back can be done in 1 to 1 1/2 hours; underarms can be done in 1-2 minutes and an upper lip in less than 10 seconds.

Will All My Hair Be Removed In One Session?

Because only 30% or your hair is in the active phase at any one time, a series, or course, of laser hair removal treatments will be required to achieve the long-term clearance you desire. These treatments are spaced approximately 4-8 weeks apart, based on hair growth cycles. You can expect an average of 4-8 treatments.

Is it safe?

Yes, the procedure is completely safe. After the procedure, patients may experience slight pink or red skin in the treated area. The color will most likely fade within a few minutes to a few hours, and in rare cases, a few days. When cold packs are used, the skin will return to normal much more quickly. The lasers utilize energy wavelengths of light that pass directly through the skin into the hair follicles.

Does it hurt?

The feel of the laser on the skin has been described in many different ways. Some say it feels like a pinch on the skin and others say it feels cool or it feels like a mild rubber band snap.

Who is a good candidate for the procedure?

Laser hair removal is used for people who want to decrease unwanted body hair. Common treatment locations include legs, armpits, upper lip, chin and bikini line. Although laser hair removal doesn't guarantee permanent hair removal, it does extend the "hair-free" period, which can vary from several months to several years. With multiple treatments, long-term hair reduction is possible.

Common Questions About Microdermabrasion

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a procedure that combines precision exfoliation with Dermal infusion to address patient-specific skin conditions. Operating on a closed-loop vacuum system, the Microdermabrasion’s diamond treatment head exfoliates the skin while delivering a topical dermaceutical at a controlled intensity. Microdermabrasion stimulates new cell growth and addresses your specific skin condition, giving your skin the revitalization you want.

Is it safe?

Microdermabrasion is a simple, non-invasive procedure performed by a medical aesthetician. The risks of traditional microdermabrasion are eliminated by Microdermabrasion’s crystal-free technology and patients experience little to no discomfort.

How does Microdermabrasion DermalInfusion differ from traditional microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion DermalInfusion differs from microdermabrasion in that simultaneously your skin is being exfoliated while at the same time a dermal infusion topical is being delivered to your skin. It is a very soothing treatment that offers noticeable, immediate outcomes with lasting skin improvement and you are able to return to normal activities at once.

How long does the procedure take?

Treatments typically last about 30 - 45 minutes. Plus, because Microdermabrasion delivers a dermaceutical during treatment, your post-treatment protocol is quick and easy.

Do you have a specific topical for my skin condition?

Microdermabrasion addresses the most common skin conditions with topicals for hydrating, skin lightening, and acne.

What should I expect after the procedure?

Your skin will have a warm, pinkish glow that will usually fade in about 30 minutes, leaving your skin looking healthy and renewed.  Your skin will feel like silk.

Will I miss work or have to alter my social schedule?

Microdermabrasion can easily be performed on your lunch hour so you can return immediately to your normal activities.

What will I have to do following the procedure?

Your medical aesthetician will recommend medical skin care products and sunscreen you can use at home to enhance and maintain results.

How long does it take to see results?

While you may see visible results after the first treatment, lasting and more significant results will be seen after 4 to 6 treatments spaced 7 to 10 days apart, supplemented by a daily post-care routine.

Does it hurt?

You may feel a mild exfoliation and tightening that leaves the skin feeling healthy and smooth. The moisture of the topicals also leaves your skin with a cool, refreshed feeling.

Common Questions About Pearl Fractional

What is the Pearl Fractional treatment?

Pearl Fractional is a new volumizing fractional laser perfected for photoaging in just one treatment. Pearl Fractional offers the best combination of patient experience and recovery time. Patients will see improvements in photodamage, tone and texture as well as a noticeably smoother, brighter complexion.

What does “fractional” mean? How does the Pearl Fractional treatment work?

Fractional therapy describes a treatment that affects only a fraction or small percentage of the skin. With Pearl Fractional, laser pulses place tiny holes deep in the skin. Columns of damaged tissue are selectively removed, leaving surrounding skin intact.

The treatment shortens healing time and stimulates the body's own natural process for creating new collagen, plumping the skin from below and reversing photoaging and other imperfections.

  • Tiny holes enable safe treatment and a rapid recovery
  • Deep treatment provides results in a single session
  • Controlled energy means maximum results with a more comfortable patient experience
  • How many treatments are recommended?
  • Most patients will see signifi cant improvement after just one treatment.

Who is a candidate for a Pearl Fractional treatment?

Patients with light-to-medium skin tones and skin imperfections due to aging and sun damage will benefit from a Pearl Fractional treatment.

What areas of the face can be treated?

Pearl Fractional can treat the entire face and is uniquely effective in the delicate periorbital (around the eyes) and perioral (around the mouth) areas. These areas often show the fi rst signs of aging and can be the most challenging to treat.

How does a Pearl Fractional treatment feel?

Most patients describe the treatment as a series of fast, hot pinches. A topical numbing cream is applied to the skin prior to treatment to alleviate some discomfort. Practitioners may choose to augment topical creams with other medications based on patient need.

When will I see results? How soon can I wear make-up?

Many patients see improvement one week after treatment. Maximum results are visible in one to three months. Patients may apply make-up five days after treatment.

Are there any restrictions on my activity after a Pearl Fractional treatment?

After treatment, the skin looks sunburned and may be slightly swollen. Patients report little or no discomfort post treatment. During post care, patients apply ointment to the skin for four to fi ve days and should limit sun exposure and wear protective clothing.

Can Pearl Fractional be part of a combination therapy treatment?

Many patients have a Pearl Fractional treatment in combination with other cosmetic therapies. These include other Cutera laser and light procedures, such as Pearl, Laser Genesis and LimeLight. Discuss combination treatment options with your practitioner.

How does Pearl Fractional compare to other fractional laser treatments?

Pearl Fractional's unique laser wavelength offers a safe but intense treatment to reverse the signs of aging. This combination gives patients dramatic results in a single treatment with approximately one week of recovery.

One week prior to treatment with Restylane-L™, avoid taking St.John's Wort, high doses of Vitamin E supplements, aspirin, and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen. These agents may increase bruising at the injection site.

Is Restylane-L™ safe?

Yes. Restylane-L™ has been used by dermatologists and plastic surgeons since 1996 worldwide. Restylane® has a highly favorable safety profile. It's composed of non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a substance found naturally in the human body. Restylane-L™ is fully biocompatible. No allergy testing is required before use.  After your treatment, you might have some redness or swelling. This will normally last less than three days. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 18, you shouldn't use Restylane-L™.

Can Restylane-L™ be used anywhere on the face?

Restylane-L™ has been used in more than 1.5 million treatments in over 60 countries to correct a variety of wrinkles. It is currently indicated in the U.S. for the treatment of moderate to severe facial wrinkles creases and folds and FDA approved for lip enhancement in patients over age 21.

When will I see results?

You will immediately see results, with the full effects visible once any swelling has subsided.

How long does Restylane-L™ last?

Studies have shown that Restylane-L™ effects generally last for about six months. The unique NASHA technology helps maintain the cosmetic effect until the injected material is nearly gone.

How is Restylane-L™ different from Botox®?

Restylane-L™ is a natural, cosmetic filler. In contrast, Botox® relaxes the underlying muscles. Many patients have been very pleased after receiving treatment with both products.

How is Restylane-L™ different from bovine collagen?

Bovine collagen is derived from animals (cow) and requires an allergy test. Restylane-L™ can be administered without pretesting, so no waiting is required. With Restylane-L™ there is limited risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reaction.

Do the injections hurt?

Restylane-L™ is injected directly into the skin in tiny amounts by an ultrafine needle, resulting in minimal discomfort. The procedure is simple and convenient, and results are practically instantaneous. To optimize your comfort during the short procedure, we apply a local anesthetic to the treatment area.

What happens if I do not continue treatment?

If you do not continue treatments, your lines and wrinkles will gradually revert to how they looked before the facial filler treatment.

How much does it cost?

Costs will vary depending on the quantity of filler used and the number of areas treated.

Common Questions About Sculptra®

How much does Sculptra® Aesthetic cost?

There are several factors that figure into how much your treatment with Sculptra® Aesthetic will cost. Some of these include how many treatment sessions are needed, how much Sculptra® Aesthetic (number of vials) Dr. Finley uses per treatment, and the degree of correction you and Dr. Finley decide upon. The best way to determine your individual cost is by having a free consultation with Dr. Finley.

How does the price of Sculptra® Aesthetic compare with other injectables?

Injectable fillers that last up to 3 to 6 months may cost less up front than one that lasts much longer, yet generally require additional treatment sessions to maintain the effect for the same durations. You may want to consider the total cost over time. Dr. Finley can discuss your needs and the cost benefits at your free consultation.

What questions should I ask during my free consultation with Dr. Finley?

A discussion with Dr. Finley is a great way to get more information about Sculptra® Aesthetic. It’s good to start thinking about what you want to get out of your anti-aging treatment. For example, with Sculptra® Aesthetic, you get a natural-looking appearance without looking like you’ve had work done. And the results can last up to 2 years.

Is Sculptra® Aesthetic safe?

Sculptra® Aesthetic is FDA approved in the United States and has been used worldwide since 1999. Sculptra® Aesthetic is made of a synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid that is absorbed naturally by the body – and has been used for years in dissolvable stitches.

How does Sculptra® Aesthetic work?

Collagen is a key structural component that keeps skin youthful looking and smooth. As you age, your body’s collagen production decreases, and you begin to see wrinkles. Sculptra® Aesthetic works to correct shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds, as it replaces lost collagen, which can help provide a refined, more youthful looking appearance. Sculptra® Aesthetic works to replace lost collagen in a series of treatments administered by Dr. Finley. On average, three injections sessions are needed over a period of a few months. The number of injection sessions and the number of injections per session vary from person to person. Within the deep dermis, your skin’s structure is reinforced as Sculptra® Aesthetic helps to replace lost collagen. This reinforced collage structure provides a foundation that gradually restores the look of fullness of your shallow to deep facial wrinkles and folds that has been depleted over time. The result? Sculptra® Aesthetic is different because if gradually and subtly corrects these facial wrinkles. This can provide a refined, more youthful looking appearance that can last up to two years.

Common Questions About Smartlipo™

What is Smartlipo™?

Smartlipo™ is a revolutionary new procedure that uses a laser to vaporize localized fat. The laser is introduced through a tiny incision into the treatment area. The incision is so small that no stitches are required and there are no scars. Patients are given a local anesthetic and stay awake throughout the short procedure. The laser provides the additional benefit of tightening the surrounding skin.

How is Smartlipo™ liposcution performed?

A very small cannula, similar in size to angel-hair pasta containing a laser fiber is inserted under the skin. The cannula is gently moved back and forth delivering the laser's energy to the fat cells, causing them to melt and easily drain away. The laser energy also interacts with the dermis causing the collagen to shrink and the skin to tighten. The laser causes small blood vessels to coagulate immediately on contact so there is less bleeding, swelling and bruising, and a quicker recovery time than conventional liposuction. Because general anesthesia is unnecessary, the procedure is very safe with minimal side effects.

Who is a good candidate for the procedure?

If you have areas of fat that will not respond to diet and exercise, then you may be a suitable candidate for Smartlipo™. Ideal candidates are in good health, of normal body weight and have realistic expectations of final results.

What body areas can be treated with Smartlipo™?

Smartlipo™ is particularly suited to treating small areas of the face, neck, arms, abdomen, thighs, and areas of loose and flabby skin including cellulite.

How many treatment sessions are required?

Generally, most patients, typically only require a single treatment. The treatment session will usually be of between 45-90 minutes for each area requiring treatment. Larger areas, such as the abdomen, buttocks and saddlebags may require further sessions after 8 - 12 weeks.

What will I have to do following the procedure?

Following the procedure, we will provide a compression garment to wear for several days. Strenuous exercise should be avoided for a period of 1 week. Power showers and massage should be avoided for a period of 10 days.

Will Smartlipo™ improve cellulite?

The procedure will improve the body's shape and contour and smooth the appearance of cellulite.

How long will I have to wait to see results?

Results can be seen immediately with some continued improvement over several months, as the body absorbs the melted fat cells that may not have been fully aspirated.

Are the results permanent?

The number of fat cells present in adults is relatively stable, as adults do not create new fat cells. When a person gains weight, the fat cells merely expand in size. Smartlipo™ permanently removes the fat cells. Any future weight gain of fatty tissue should be deposited in areas where the procedure was not performed.

Common Questions About Thermage™

What is the Thermage procedure?

Thermage™ is a safe, non-invasive, no downtime, single treatment, cosmetic procedure that is clinically proven to tighten, contour and rejuvenate facial skin to help naturally restore a more youthful appearance. The Thermage procedure is administered in the office using the ThermaCool™ system, FDA cleared for the treatment of facial wrinkles, which utilizes a unique form of Capacitive Radiofrequency (CRF) technology to tighten existing collagen and stimulate new natural collagen production. Immediate results are visible and continue to improve for up to six months. The Thermage procedure is fast and easy, and requires no downtime from normal activities. Unlike lasers, the procedure can be performed on patients of all skin color.

How does the Thermage procedure work?

The procedure works by heating deep collagen fibers in the skin and underlying tissue, while protecting the skin's surface with a cooling spray. The treatment is performed with the ThermaCool™ device. A ThermaTip attached to a handheld device, briefly touches the skin, delivering the non-invasive CRF energy deep beneath the skin. This deep uniform heating action causes the deep structures in the skin and underlying tissue to immediately tighten. Over time, new and remodeled collagen is produced to further tighten skin and renew facial contours.

How long does the Thermage procedure take?

Depending on the size of the area to be treated, the procedure may take as little as 20 minutes or up to two hours.

How many treatments will I need?

Unlike many laser procedures requiring four or more sessions, a single Thermage treatment produces results in the majority of patients. Dr. Finley will determine the course of treatment that is right for each patient.

When will I see results?

Immediate results are visible, and improve over time. Measurable tightening and contouring improvements appear gradually over a two to six month time period following a single treatment session.

Where on the face is the Thermage procedure performed?

Thermage treatments can be used on the forehead, the areas around the eyes, cheeks, mouth, jaw line, jowls, and under the chin.

What does the Thermage procedure feel like?

With each touch of the ThermaTip device, the patient experiences a brief, deep heating sensation as the CRF energy is delivered to the skin and underlying tissue. This deep heating sensation is an indication that collagen is reaching effective temperatures for tightening. To protect the skin and make the treatment more comfortable, the surface of the skin is cooled before, during, and after each application of CRF energy. Patient feedback on the level of heat sensation experienced during the procedure will help guide Dr. Finley to balance procedural comfort with maximum results. You may be offered light pain medications prior to treatment to minimize sensation. These options should be discussed directly with Dr. FInley as each patient's needs vary.

Is there any special preparation or follow-up regime?

No. Unlike surgery, there is no pre-procedure preparation, such as blood work or fasting required. One can return to regular activities immediately following treatment and there is no special care after treatment. Some patients exhibit a temporary redness or minor swelling after treatment, this usually resolves within 24 hours. Good skin care and sunscreens are recommended as part of your regular skin care regimen. The only signs of treatment are naturally smoother, younger, and healthier skin.

How long will the effects of the Thermage procedure last?

The Thermage procedure immediately tightens existing collagen and stimulates new natural collagen production for up to six months following the treatment. Unpublished reports by experienced cosmetic doctors indicate that results may last for years and are based on the patient's natural aging process.

Is the Thermage procedure safe?

The Thermage procedure has an excellent safety record. With over 190,000 estimated worldwide patient treatments to date the reported incidence of side effects is less than 0.4%. The most frequently reported incidents are classified as swelling, redness, bumps, and blisters on or around the treated area. These side effects have disappeared in a few days or weeks. A rare (<0.11%) but longer lasting side effect described as a surface irregularity has also been reported.

How much does the Thermage procedure cost?

In the U.S., the procedure cost may range from $1,000 to $5,000 based on the areas treated. Dr. Michele Finley will discuss her fees with you at the time of the consultation.
